Urgent, is this leo healthy?

Triad Sep 27, 2004 04:00 PM

This is Kalypso, I just want to know if she looks healthy to all of you experienced with leo gecks. Because she hasn't been eating her crickets lately and I'm a little worried.

She is very cute, and appears to be healthy on the outside! maybe a few more details would help us asses her a little bit more, like describe (in super detail) her tank, and what she has been eating in the past, and if she has ever been treated for anyhting in the past. oh, and also how long she has been not eating, sometimes (especially this time of the year) my geckos will get a little bit less ravenous (lol, knock on wood, i've always had really good eaters!) maybe she's just being picky?

Well she's only been eating wax worms. I had her on crickets and wax worms but now she's only eating the worms.

I just wanted to know if she was healthy or not....just because she's only been eating worms, but those she eats like a champ she eats a lot now because they neglected her when she was at Petco.

She's also grown about 3 inches since I've had her for the past year. She's put on weight also which I think is real good.

Nothing is wrong with the leo is just addicted to the waxworms. Waxworms should only be fed as a treat once every week or so i would put a couple crickets with the back legs pulled off in the bowl with the waxworms to make it thinks its eating waxworms.

That's a good idea, only thing is I'm afraid of crickets, I just hate them jumping and touching me, so I think my mom will be helping with that tomorrow.

Thanks for the help all!

Put them in the freezer for about 15 or 20 seconds at the will be imobilized so you can take the legs off then just put em in the bowl and when they warm up they will move again.

you could try mealworms too. they have a more waxworm-like movement so your gecko might want to eat them because they are more like waxies than crickets. also, the fact that she came form petco puts up a little red flag! they are notorious for having parasite infected geckos (not all, but most!) so you might want to get her a little check up by the vet.

The day she was delivered to petco was the day I got her. I saw her in a box ready to be unpacked and I'm like she doesn't deserve to be treated like crap like the other animals they have here. So I bought her that day. Took her to a friend of my brother who is a vet now and he checked her then and said she was fine.

I also hate crix they smell and hide and escape however they are good for leos. Therefore what i usually do instead of freezing, cuz i don't want them near my food, also i find those legs are really glued on their bodies... anyhue i digress.

What i do is take a spoon that no one ever wants again and simply semi decapitate them. basically crunch then between the head and the thorax. They will still twitch but will be severly impaired :D Cruel yes i know

Triad Sep 28, 2004 07:13 AM

That's some good advice.

Today I have school from 8-2:15 CST. So after school I'll swing by some place and pick up Crickets and I guess meal worms.

besides gut loading the worms, is there anything else I have to do like peel off a hard shell or what?

Nope gawd that'd be sooo gross :P

Just gutload them and throw them in. Also try butterworms/and silkworms. However mine didn't like silkworms but really like the butterworms. They're expensive though, in CND they were selling $1 each :P Try one or 2 small butterworms. They have twice the amount of calcium than any other feeder and are soft, easy to digest and don't stink. But they are hideous looking :D
Good luck

Triad Sep 28, 2004 07:06 PM

Where can I get butterworms at then?
