Shannon:

I'm an editor at a newspaper and when we get submitted pictures for publication they often get blurry like your pocture. It is because the photo is not taken at a high enough resolution and when being sized it expands the image to fit the area and increases the size of the pixels. That would be my guess but bear in mind I'm a techno-phobe. Just check the size of your photo and try increasing the size of the image.

Nice snake anyway.

This one didn't come out too blurry. I have a heck of a time tryin' to get good, clear pictures of my little Pueblan, Ori. His body always comes out incredible, but, his cute little, bitty head is always blurry. I have a 5 megapixel camera, too. And it doesn't seem like he's shaking his little pea head around or anything, and I try not to wiggle myself. It's all just trial and error, I suppose. If ya wanna cut and paste this link, you can see some of him. I haven't figured out how to post pictures like everyone else.

Deborah,

You're probably focusing on the body and not the head. Set your camera to focus on a small area in the center of the viewfinder. then aim THAT focusing area at the snake's head, depress the shutter half way, move the camera to re-frame the shot (but DON'T chance the distance to the snake) and press the shutter the rest of the way. That way you "freeze" the focus on the head. You can also do this when you take a picture of a person in front of distant mountains, for example...if you're camera's using a wide area to focus, or averaging diff parts of the viewfinder, you'll get neither the person nor the mountains properly focused, though it'll be more apparent on the person. So you point at the person, focus by depressing shutter part way, shift your aim, and take the pic.

Of course, if this fixes ;your problem, the head will be in focus but the rest of the body may not be. If ;you want ALL of the snake in focus you need to use a wide-angle setting (telephoto compresses the depth of field--you'd use a tele lens to intentionally throw the background out of focus if shooting a portrait of a person) and also LIGHT the subject more brightly--brightly lit, the pic will be taken with a smaller aperture (lens opening) and that increases depth of field.

hope that helps.

Regarding all the camera help...

Thanks Terry! I'll try to remember that when he is done digesting. It's just hard to think about anything else when he's out and no one holding him. He still pretty much just wants to GO! No where inparticular, but he sure is gonna get there fast. We handle him about 30 minutes every day, except for his 2 digesting days. I've already figured out about LIGHT. The flash on him looks terrible. Enough said...Thanks for all your helpful advice. I appreciate it MUCHO!

shannon, can you select a pic that exhibits the blurriness you refer to, and look at the pic in your software that would tell the image size (xxxx by yyyyy pixels, at zz pixels per inch)....knowing the image size of the photo AFTER you've done your magic with it will help somebody here know why the image isn't as crisp as you'd like.
