Ever seen this before?

I have a reversed trio of pygmy rattlesnakes and I think the female is gravid. (I haven't investigated too closely. lol) Well anyway a few days ago I threw in a couple mice and thought they had been eaten. Last night I noticed a funny smell coming from their enclosure and looked closer. They stockpiled the mice in a nice little pile in the back corner and the female was laying on them! I have never seen anything like this and neither have the other local breeders. Anyone else seen anything like this?

Misdirected nesting behavor? or maybe there's some kind of heat benefit from the rotting mice? More then likely she instinctively killed them and pulled them toward her, even though she wasn't hungry, or was unable to eat due to being gravid. That's my guess anyway.
