Eastern Painted turtle hatchling

severa May 14, 2003 11:20 PM

Just wanted to spread joy by posting a recent pic of my hatchling. A tremendous eater! We are varying his diet with blood worms, earthworms, Hikari turtle sticks( I love HIKARI!!!), freshly chopped up rosy reds( minnows from local petstore that I wish to go un-named), and the occassional wax worm.(Just an FYI for those of you that are unformiliar with waxies(wax worms), with most reptiles they should be offered as an occassional treat as they are high in fat! Some reptiles grow so fond of them that if they were fed them too often, the reptiles will get stuck on them. This happened to me with my geckos years ago when I didn't know better. Luckily I was able to break them of their reluctant crave.

she's cute, very nice.
yes waxies are fattening but convient as everything seems to eat them
i like hikari too
have you tried the cichlid gold? lots of turtles like it and its almost as good as the better turtle pellets
they make a tiny size which might be good for hatchlings.

I have a hatchling, I feed him dried shrimp (some type of turtle food) and crickets. Hes too small for minnows right now.
