Loofah's healing process

jiffypop Sep 27, 2004 08:21 PM

Loof is healing better and faster than I expected him to. I was quite worried the first couple of days because the swelling made it look like he would be quite disfigured. But the swelling has subsided and he's looking very good. If you look closely at the 3rd stitch down from the chin you can see the twisted ends of the wire holding his jaw together. That will be removed in another 4-6 weeks. He's crunching on dry RepCal pellets now so I don't think he's feeling pain any longer. Miloxicam is a wonderful drug for these guys. Herp medicine has come a long way in the past few years and it's wonderful that they consider pain control for these animals now.

Once had a male cuban do an alligator roll while biting into the side of a female rhino. It made a big cut and he left a few teeth behind. The cut was treated with a buterfly - It was pretty well healed up in 10 days, and it's hard to find the scare today.

It must be hard for an ig with an appetite like Loof's to endure that kind of trama. Looks to be healing up nicely.
