My Turtle.. Is it Male/Female and what species. Thnx

danec020 Sep 28, 2004 01:16 AM

This is my lovely turtle. I was told it is a Florida Alligator Snapper. I could be incorrect but that was how it was sold to me. I am just wondering if that is accurate and if my turtle is fat and is there things i should know? I had him/her for 2 years now and just thought of looking up more info on him. my next post will have a belly shot where you can see his fat.

What you have there is a Musk turtle AKA Stinkpot (Snernotherus odoratus), and most likely the specimen is a female.

Hate to say this, but thats not a Snapper...as others have told you... go to Chelydra.com to see what snappers look like... And the people that told u that its a snapper should be fed to a snapper for mis-informing you.

Well that stinks, but I still love my turtle. :P She always sits in the water with her mouth open moving her tongue back and forth... I heard snappers do that but I knew she didn't look like a snapper. But she acts like one, she burries herself, does the lure thing, and also everytime i pick her up she opens her mouth like to snap something... Also, do you guys think she is too fat?

The seller of this animal should be fed to the snappers as one guy said, but also seems your "snapper" is having an identity crisis with the luring it has been doing. Well, maybe if you tell an animal it is another animal enough times, it will start to believe it and act like it? Hmmmm
