Need Help, Ozzy escaped up a tree..................

Iguanamom Sep 28, 2004 01:08 PM

Im not sure what to do. We had let ozzy out for some roaming time and he escaped out a window, where the screen had a small tear that i wasnt aware of. We ran outside after him but he was too fast and climbed up a huge tree in my front yard. Well he is now about 50-60 feet up the tree. I called the fire department and they will not help. Thing is i live in Illinois and we are having a bit of cooler weather right now. Its about 65 degrees right now. How long can he last in these temps? Even worse its supposed to be down in the 40's tonight and im sure he cant last in those kind of temps. I just have no idea what to do. I will say Ozzy seems to be having a great time exploring all over the tree and testing out his climbing skills, which are very good i will add. So any tips you guys have on how i can get him down would be greatly appreciated, also on how long he can survive in these temps. Thanks ahead of time. Tami

Any luck yet?? Gosh, I hope so. Otherwise the only thing I can think of is to look into renting something that can go higher than a normal ladder. I wish the firemen would help you out. Did you try all the departments in your area?? Animal control? Police? I wish I had better advice for you. Good luck.

Well i am happy to say Ozzy is in his cage warming up under his lights as i type this. Gosh what a day. I just spent about 8 hours standing in my front yard staring up at the tree. Im sure the neighbors think im totally nuts. I finally got ahold of a tree trimming service that came out. The guy went up in the bucket thing, removed the whole branch he was on and brought him down to me. Ozzy seems fine, totally unphased by the days events. Just looked at me like, oh hi mom, that was fun. He is warming up and moving around fine, he even drank some water out of his bowl, which he rarely does. Guess all that fresh air and natural sunlight made him thirsty. But you guys should have seen him he climbed approx. 50-60 feet up. He was so high i could barely see him, well plus he was well camoflouged in the leaves. Also it was very windy today, we had so many close calls, where i swore he was going to fall out of the tree. But thankfully he held on tight. OH and the best part is the guy from the tree service refused to take payment. So another Iguana crisis averted. Well just wanted to update you guys. Thanks Tami
