Sheay is sick

urprettyone Sep 28, 2004 02:47 PM

Hey guys,
I know it has been a long time since I have posted. I have been staying pretty busy with work, home and the family. I noticed about a week ago that Sheay started acting a little weird and I assumed she was getting ready to shed again. But after closer examination I noticed that the lower part of her right hind leg looked swollen. I took her out and looked to see if there was any broken skin indicating a sore, but there wasn't. I have been hand watering her with an eye dropper because she is having a tough time getting around to do for herself. I have also been force feeding her tiny crickets. She isn't getting any worse but she isn't getting any better either. I have no idea what could have happened to her. I don't let her roam the house or let anyone handle her except for my hubby and I. We always wash hands before and after touching her. Any suggestions? We live in a small town and do not have a Herp vet anywhere nearby.
Please help!!
Kat

Just some questions ruling stuff in or out. Have you been supplimenting , dusting with the calcium?

Do you have a uvb light on him and has it been renewed in the past 6 months to a year?

Just wondering about MBD ??????????

I know swollen lims can be from that and also GOUT ! Let us know

I give the calcium through her cricks and through her bedding. What in the world is MBD? I am on the AIM messenger if you would like to talk. I am really worried about her. I don't like it when one of my babies isn't feeling well.

don't get all worried, I only brought that up and wanted to make sure you have uvb light and dust your crickets .

Swelling in a limb , can be that, gout, in some lizards, an injury, its so hard to know Kat.

What other symptoms does she have besides the welling? Is she eating? Basking? Anything that you can think of helps us.

If it stays swollen for any lentgh of time and she is not acting right, I would TRY and find a Vet.

She gets out of her little cave everyday and sleeps out by her heat rocks. She will eat as long as I basically force her to eat. I will try to take some photos of her limbs to show you what she looks like. What are the usual treatments for the conditions that you have described? Is there a possibility that on of the crickets has bitten her causing the swelling? Maybe I should try to switch to a different supplement for her. The stuff that I use is called Orange cubes. It said that it is a complete nutrition additive for the crickets that I give her. I will continue to look for a vet. But any info that you guys can give will be gladly appreciated.

it is not what I'm talking about. Your supposed to dust your crickets with a calcium powder, young collareds everyday, adults atleast 2 - 3 times a week.

There are many out there. I use Sticky Tongue, Miner-All (for indoor reptiles)

If you have not been using this and you dont have a uvb light or it is older, OR he does not get natural sunlight, they can develope metabolic bone diease. Symptoms, can be many, swollen limbs, lameness, twitching, seizures, many things.

Again because she has a swollen leg does not mean she has that.

Thats why its important you find a Vet, so they can determine why it is swollen. Also the fact she not eating by herself, you know something is not right.

Its just so hard with some things to know whats going on. Here we can help when its small things we see all the time.

Also if it were me, I would save my money and stop buying the orange cubes for crickets, and feed them greens, carrots real orange slices, apple slices, potato slices, dry cat or dog food fish food, cereals, there are alot of good things you can feed them, that (I think are more nutrious) for your lizard.

** Always Remember, whatever your bugs eat, thats what your lizard is getting.

So I do not know exactly what these orange cubes for crickets are, but I would recommend feeding them really well on some of the things listed.

I sure hope Sheay will be okay, hate when they are sick
