Is brumation necessary?

blackpine Sep 28, 2004 04:19 PM

I do not plan to breed my black pine. She's a pet and a presentation animal. I've never brumated my corns or kings and they've done well. I assume that brumation is not necessary for my black pine but I thought I'd check with the experts to make sure I'm not committing a husbandry blunder. Thanks in advance for your advice.

If you don't intend to breed the snake, then brumation is not necessary. It may go off feed for a while during the winter, but if it has good body weight to begin with that won't hurt anything. Just make sure it always has water available.
