Unshed eyecaps please help

calvo Sep 28, 2004 07:51 PM

Hi there, My name is Andy, i am currently living in Aguascalientes Mexico where i have 2 Pituophis Deppei Deppei and a Ball Python living happily for the last year and a half here with me. Yesterday my father in law arrived at the house with another Deppei in a bottle which had trapped itself. Unfortunatly there are no reptile vets in Aguascalientes to remove the caps so i was wondering if anybody could suggest some way i could help the poor devil.

I was thinking about putting him in a damp pillow case for a few hours to see if that helps, but i am not sure about this method for the eyecaps

Any info would be appreciated

Thanks Andy

Yeah, that's a good plan....Another thing you may consider is soaking him/her in lukewarm water for approx 15-20 minutes 2x a day....Either of these will most likely result in the eyecaps being shed on their own....

Don't attempt to remove them on your own, as this can cause the loss of an eye if one is not extraordinarily careful...

Good luck

I have done just like you said and it has worked. One thing you can try is to take a band-aid and wrap it around your finger with the sticky part outside and place it on the eye cap and see if it will lift off. That has work for me many times
