W.C. / LTC Kayaudi Dwarf retics...

PristinePythons Sep 28, 2004 08:00 PM

I've been out of retics awhile but I have returned. I'm planning on picking up an adult female kayaudi dwarf retic that came in awhile ago. She looks around 6-8ft in her tub. Great looking girl! She looks almost purple in person with a vanishing pattern! A few tounge flicks but that's it she seemed pretty calm. I'll get her a boyfriend a little later next month. Time to anti up for a real cage. I'm looking at picking up a 4-6fter. What would you reccomend? These will be my first true dwarfs (bali's are not dwarfs). Anyways wish me luck! I'll be sure to get pictures up when I get her!

I would go with a 6 footer if you have the room. Even if she is fairly calm, she will use the space. Set her up with two hides, one cool the other warm. Keep her humid but not wet... and always keep her water source fresh. Don't bother her at all except for feeding and cleaning. I would even cover the front of her enclosure with a towel or some sort of opaque covering for the first few weeks or even months. Once she is settled then start worrying about getting a fecal done. If she turns up positive for parasites (which she probably will) go ahead and clean her up. During this whole process be sure to keep her in quarantine and keep a close eye on her mouth... they almost always rub their faces raw and frequently develop mouth rot. Feed her like a good little retic and she might just make babies for you in a few years! Hope this helps.

*Side note* In some of the ads I have noticed sellers claiming that the adult Kayuadis should produce this season... BAH! WC dwarf retics take TIME to acclimate... don't expect anything to happen real soon.

I was leaning on a 6fter anyways as I sold all of my other projects. These dwarf retics will be my one and only project to focus all my attention on. I think she is calm (then again you never know till she's being handled). While I was looking in the bin she slowly went to the other side flicking her tounge. Seemed shy to me. She didn't try and bite at all. Then again retics can be hell till you get them out of the enclosure. I had planned on using 2 hides. I'm not sure what I'm going to use as hides but I'm still looking into it. Fresh Water for sure! I had planned on leaving her totally alone and covering her cage probably for a few months! I need to find out if she has already had a fecal but that will be on the to do list for sure! Like I said she will be my only project along with a male I plan on picking up for her. Both animals look good, no rubbing yet. Both animals are fat and appear healthy. I may "try" this season then again I won't be expecting much if anything at all. I know how it is with w.c. animals producing in captivity. Then again they will be covered and completely out of view from anyone so who knows. Cage cleaning and fresh water will be their only bother. Then again they will most likely be in their hide and not even see me do anything. Who knows, I'll keep my hopes up. Wish me luck!
