Anyone know where I might find an albino subocularis?

silvano_06095 Sep 28, 2004 08:12 PM

AKA an albino Trans-pecos rat? I think I saw an ad here for hets, but I didn't notice who was selling them. I'm looking to pick up one or two.

Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

I was curious too so I looked it up, nice looking snake they have there, but $2500? I couldnt pay that much for a snake.

Hehe, I think an albino or two would be worth it, as there aren't very many in existence at the moment. I want to experiment with breeing albinos to blondes, and albinos to axanthics. Obviously, I'd have to cross the double hets back, but I want to see what happens.

This is what I get for having hondurans... double-het fever!

Are the axanthics the silver ones? I havent seen those for sale yet, how much do they run? Id also like to see a cross with blonds or silver with the albino. That is a really nice snake. Do you breed and sell as a business?

Silvano_06095 Sep 29, 2004 07:34 PM

Yep, axanthics are the silver ones; sometimes they're just called silvers.
I paid between 150 and 200 an animal for my axanthics, but not too many people seem to have them for sale. That may change in early November or so, when babies start hatching out.
I don't currently do this as a business (I'm a full time student at the moment) but someday I will.
And with any luck, next year I'll be producing blondes, blonde hets, and axanthics.

His website is dkreptiles.com he has hets for albino and I think he may have triple hets available this year. That sounds like the way you need to go on your future project. Then you can sell me your axanthic females. Thanks.

Dave Katz had three males up for sale earlier this week. He has a classified under corn and rat snakes dated 9/29/04. He's asking $1,500 for the albinos. If he had a female, I would've snatched her up! I'm looking for an albino female to breed with my axanthic male and maybe eventually I can produce snows. You might have more luck with albinos later in the season. Also, you can check with Craig Trumbower. I called Don at South Mtn. and that's who he referred me to. Got to love those subocs!

Wow guys, thanks for all the info!

Dan, if everything goes well in the next breeding year, I'll have axanthics to sell you next fall.

Kismet, thanks for the specifics. I've contacted Dave, and hopefully he still has an albino male left. Maybe even the het female. *hopes*
In case they've all been sold, do you have any contact info for Craig Trumbower?

Thanks again, guys!

Craig's e-mail is ctrumbow@tampabay.rr.com. I e-mailed him in early August and he said to check back in October. Being impatient, I e-mailed him last week to see if maybe he had any news, but I haven't heard back from him yet. Hope he fared OK through all the hurricanes . . .

I talked with Dave Barker not too long ago, and he told me that his wife Tracy has all kinds of subocs ready to go. VPI.com
