Good baby foods

Hsoj Sep 28, 2004 10:15 PM

I feed my crested peach baby food because it has no extra sugar and no citric acid. I cant find any other flavors that dont have sugar and citric acid. Anyone kno of any? Does the exta sugar and citric acid really matter?
Also, would it be ok to just feed him peach (with CGD and the occasional crickets) or do they like variety in their baby foods?

Sorry for all the questions and thank you for any replies

variety is good.

there is not enough citric acid to do any harm, straight citrus, like orange for example is bad, but small amounts in baby food is mainly for preservative reasons.

the sugar really isn't a huge deal either, you dont want to feed him a pile of sugar, but sugar in baby food is common, theres sugar in just about everything.

cresteds have a bit of a sweet tooth anyhow.

I feed:

fruit medley
mango
peach
pear
banana
apricot

i think there is a couple more but maybe not, i cant remember.

Thank you. I have some other baby foods that have no added sugar but do have citric acid. I guess i will start to use those and maybe everyonce in a while give the little guys some mashed fruit.
Thanks again

I feed a variety of flavors, but I still make sure there are no added sugars, citrus acid, preservatives, artifical coloring or flavoring. Natural fruit as a lot of sugar in it already - so I avoid any extra/added sugar to be safe.

The 2 brands I use are: Del Monte's Natures Goodness and Gerbers Tender Harvest. I still avoid anything with citrus fruits.

Sorry too post so late on this, but I checked the stuff out at he grocery, and it contains milk. Being reptiles, couldn't cresties have trouble digesting lactose? They shouldn't have the enzyme needed to process it. I'm just wondering, because lactose intollerant humans can get pretty sick.

How long can i keep the baby food in the fridge before it goes bad. Cant really go by smell because i think it all smells bad.

2-3 days after opening is the recommendation I've read on various baby food websites and on some jars.

To make a jar last longer/go farther, freeze small cubes in an ice tray and then store in a freezer bag using cubes as needed.
