Possible problem with Vieled (long post)

reptilefreak16 Sep 28, 2004 10:29 PM

OK heres the scoop...
In the middle of June I purchased a pair of vieled chams. They were breed before i purchased them. But she had already laid her "last" clutch before she was sent to me. Now here it is almost october. Two nights ago i saw her digging non stop at night on the glass bottom of her enclosure. When i woke up in the morning she was sleeping on the floor.I noticed blue spots on her and from what im told tha means shes gonna lay eggs. So yesterday i filled a bucket with moist peat moss and put it in her enclosure. Last night she continued to sscratch the bottom of the enclosure. Now tonite when i got home from work she has burried her self half way down in the moss. After about a 4 months away from the male can she still lay eggs (shes never been with the male scince i got her)??

females will lay infertile clutches all the time. i dont have any personal experiance yet with that situation but lele's been around the block a few times. im sure she could help. but if shes already layed everything should be ok. just make she gets lots of food, water, rest, and supplements.

You said..."Now tonite when i got home from work she has burried her self half way down in the moss. After about a 4

Not only can/will veiled chameleon females lay (infertile) eggs when they haven't been witb a male, they can retain sperm and some/all of the next clutch can be fertile.
I'd advise you not to let her see you while she's digging her hole or laying the eggs.
Hope all goes well with her laying them!

Well all went well in her laying the eggs. I was worried because its her fourth clutch this season.(first with me) And i heard that they average or should only have 2 clutches. But shes getting pumped with calcium now. In all she layed 42 eggs. Ill keep everyone posted.
