I'm hoping to get a dumeril in about 5 years or so (after I grad vet school and get a job) but thought I'd do some searching on care info. I've found contradicting info (of course) with their length being anywhere from 6-11 feet. Most enclosure sizes are being listed as 4x2feet, but don't say what they are made of and such. How do you all keep your dumerils? I also read that all captive breed babies need to be chipped and have a certificate since they are a CITES species. Other good info I should know?

Dumerils average 6ft some up to 8ft. the 11fter you speak of someone got Dumerils and Mad Ground boas mixed up. Madagascar ground boas are a closely realted cousin to the dumerils. Its not uncommon for people for people who not familiar with ground boas to mix them with dumerils. Ground boas can actually get 13ft plus, Ive heard of some really large animals.

I use all Visions cages I use both 4x2fters and 5x3fters. The 4x2fters are fine for 9 out of 10 animals. Mainly the 5fters are used for breeding because I can get a better thermal gradiant in them.

"How do you all keep your dumerils?" I keep mine on aspen bedding, temps 75-82 during the summer, although some of my hots spots can range into 100Plus degrees but that only in a little spot under the lamp not a vast area of the cage. I stack my cages 4 high and because of them being plastic the heat goes straight up so I try to run heat lamps in every other one. Howveer someone time I must plug them all in and in that spot right under the lamps it can get hot, but that only maybe a 12inch area out of 15sq ft. and 70-80 during the winter I run my lighting on timers with what ever is hapening outside.. Offspring I keep in 6inchx12 inch rubbermaid shoe boes. Temps 78-81 on aspen bedding. I have a little revamped closet I put the small ones in and have a plug heater set about 79 so the temps bounce a little. They do great in that range.

Ive never heard that I have been kepping them for many a years, breding them for 7plus. I know they are listed on cities, I am not sure what apendix though I have never tried to export them so I havnt followed any of that. Ive never heard anything about having to chip them though.
