Is 95 degrees to hot for a leopard gecko?

jch Sep 29, 2004 11:00 AM

I have read so many different articles with different temps etc. Hot side stays around 94 and cool side down to 74. He seems to always stay on the hot side in his hide. I have only had him for about 5 days. Any advise would be great!! Jared

I would say that's a little too hot. About 85-90 degrees would be good. Congrats on your new gecko! I hope he settles in fine.

94-95 is okay for the hot side, but I suggest positioning the hide so it's only half in the 95 degree spot and half off. Or put in more hides all along the gradient, so he can hide at 90 degrees or 85 degrees when he feels like it.

It also depends on what size tank it is in. If he is only is a ten gallon or something of similar size then that is probably too hot because he will have no cool spot. In a longer tank it should be all set because he will be able to get out of the heat if he wants.

Hes in a 10 gal but the temps read as 94 on the hot side and 74 on the cool side. He has 2 hides, 1 humid on hot side and 1 on the cool side.94 is right under the light and then the heat disapates.
