I have been using two weeks old quail as nutritional supplement and diet variety for a large number of my snakes. Of course these are too large for most any Hognose. How old are the chicks you are feeding? Is there any difference in their willingness to eat them as opposed to mice? And I hope this is not new information, but feeding snakes on their substrate has an inherent risk of impaction.

Both my hognoses eat chicks like mice. No hesitation ever even with the first chick. These chicks are one day old. I always feed them in the cage since handling them right before feeding is a bit risky. LOL Mine will grab anything that moves when food is in the air. I have never had any problems with my snakes swallowing wood chips. I have been using it for over 10 years. I have seen wood go in many times but not a single snake of mine had a problem with it.

If I was foolish enough to try and handle my adult female while there was rodent smell in the room, you would be seeing pics of my swollen and bloody hands on this site!

That's what I'm talking about.....posting up pictures of Hogs eating other things other than mice. I think it shows another option. It also helps new hog owners that are having problems feeding their snakes. It shows that hogs can eat other things.

Thanks for the pics.

on the substrate. I did too until I saw my red tegu poop out a stick that was nearly as long as his svl. I kept watching for weird behavior or for something to be wrong. Anyway, I feed on paper plates, porcelan camp ware, etc. Just my two cents.
