Age to let her run around....

Bezzerra Jun 27, 2003 10:05 AM

What age should my beardie be before I let her run around and explore the room? She's only 6 weeks old right now and about 7 inches long. I've only had her for 2 weeks. Should I wait until she is bigger to let her run around on her own?

I've been handling her for about 10 mintues a day to get her used to me. She thinks she can fly so she tries to jump off of me (I sit on the floor while handling her)and onto the floor. Should I let her or try to hold her back?

That's a tough question and it really depends on the circumstances. I didn't let my beardies run around until they were large enough that they couldn't fit into really small places like behind the entertainment center or under the couch. They were juveniles, maybe 6 months old. And even when I let them run around, I am constantly watching them. Young dragons are very flighty and will bolt off very quickly. You probably will not be able to keep up. If you do decide to let him explore, make sure no other animals can get a hold of him, like a cat or a dog, and have the room closed off. Also, you should be in a room where there are few places the beardie can get caught in. Like behind your stove or refrigerator. Just use common sense. In my opinion, I would wait until your beardie is a few months older. The older a beardie gets the more calm they usually get.

going into the bathroom since it is a small place, putting towels in the space under the doors, and letting her roam around while I sit in the floor. If she acts scared, I'll put her up.

I just didn't want to rush her into anything but wanted to get her used to being outside of her cage and around me. Any ideas on how to do this other than previously stated?

Thanks for the advice about waiting. If the bathroom excursion doesn't work, I'll wait until she is older.

my little girl does that too. or, since im usually holding her at the computer, she climbs onto the keyboard, looks around a bit, and then makes a break for it which usually involves her jumping since i just had a snake escape and not be found yet, im so afraid shes going to get away never to be seen again. cute as she is being so tiny now, i think ill be relieved when she's a little bit bigger
