Look what I found last night... (Warning, yucky pic)

girliegirl Jun 27, 2003 10:18 AM

When I get home from work I check on albert and the kids before I do anything else. Well, I look in on Albert and his toe is hanging off by a thread (Actually, ligament or whatever holds the joint together). Everytime he took a step he would shake his foot to try to get it off. I felt like such a BAD mommy!!! So I gave his a nice warm soak, cleaned it up, clipped the thread (ligament) and put meds on the open wound. Poor little guy. He was so brave, he didn't even try to bite me! I just don't understand how people can mistreat something so cute! I plan on going to the pet shop I got him from today w/a before and after photo and degrading them for starving him! I doubt they will even care though. At least I will feel better!

Thanks for all the info John, I never would've known what to do w/it hanging like that.

Beautiful guy looks great Carrie, his foot will be fine, just keep the meds on for awhile. But he sure has pretty colors and is getting chuckier ! Eve

Got a question for ya too...Some of the toes on the same foot don't look too hot either. Any ideas what caused the first one to die? I've made sure there aren't any cuts or unsheded skin stuck on them. I don't want him to be a cripple, but if that's what he becomes...so be it! I'll love him anyways!! And the sexing thing...he doesn't have any spots by his vent. Is it the spots to look for or the angle/shape of the vent itself?? I've had luck w/my others, I name them and they turn out to be that sex.

Thanks for all the compliments eve!

Look for the row of enlarged *post-anal* scales directly behind (and aligned with) the vent slit.

--> Enlarged scales = male

EtChipotle posted some pictures further back that show the vents of both sexes.

This picture shows the males' enlarged scales

way, who knows, someone did not tak egood care of your guy or you would not have found him and recued him in such poor shape. They may have dropped a rock or something on his foot, by accident, or maybe he got it stuck somewhere, hard to say since you got him that way, just watch those toes for any infection, and medicate, Shame they did not take better care of him, BUT THEN CAME CARRIE !!! YEAAAAAAAAA !!! Take it easy ! Eve
