id say a common BCI would be your best bet ... if your really concerned so much about size try and get a male, but they seem to be fairly hardy and are fairly cheap as far as boas go. also not to hard to keep conditions right.

when I asked a somewhat similar question a few months ago, with nicaraguans being second but some say nics can be nippy. I hadn't been very impressed with the pics I had seen of hogs, because their pale colors don't really photo well. After lots of researching, I got an unrelated pair of hogs from different breeders. The male is stunningly beautiful and the female is the nicest mellowest boa I've known. They max out at about 6 feet and less than half the weight of a common colombian, with generally good temperaments for an island boa. Gaining rapidly in popularity for good reason.
I also recently got a Cay caulkers boa, which is another interesting small island boa, rare and pricey for a beginner though. Mine is very friendly, active and curious. It also seems cold hardy because it likes the cool side of it's cage.
