Mojave Patchnose Snakes?

louevil Sep 29, 2004 09:30 PM

Does anyone know anything about this species? There is not much info out there on them, and I am curious. Thanks.

I see a few of them every year. I have one in captivity that I caught three or four years ago. He feeds fine on frozen thawed but skips a meal now and then. He also does not tame down. He will strike at anything that moves past his cage. When handled he is nervous. In terms of behavior he reminds me of striped racers or whipsnakes.

My experience with them is that...yes they are a nervous snake. I also found that some of them refused anything but a lizard diet...and some totaly refused to feed. Since I am in S. Fla. this resulted in a force feed situation because I could not release back into their own enviroment.

Those that did establish however, mostly lost their tendancies towards defensiveness.
