Hey guys. Very odd question... opinions appreciated.

As most of you know, I'm just 16 years old. I'm disabled due to my back surgery, so I have no way of obtaining a job to get money. Here's my problem.

I'm almost positive Tobias and Novia have parasites. Problem is, the recent hurricanes have really put a damper on my dad's income- he's currently out of work until the car lot is repaired.

Any ideas on how I can raise some money to get my little guys to the vet? They're my top priority right now, with my little hamster right behind them... she has wet tail, and her meds aren't helping. But I do NOT want to lose these lizards. How in the heck can I get them to a vet!?

I know, I'm rambling nonsense. Sorry.

Don't sell yourself short--just get creative. You probably won't be a firefighter, but there are lots of jobs you can do even with a bad back.

Contact your nearest herp society and explain the situation. You may get some kind folks to help for free. At the very least, they can point you to some good vets who can check out your lizards. I'm assuming they'll do a fecal float or a culture under a microscope, neither of which should be very expensive.

wow, 16 and back surgery? i thought i was bad at 24 with two shot knees. people on this forum have been talking about using parazap to get rid of bugs, which would get you some meds for them without having the vet fee. if you really want to take them to the vet, maybe the parazap could buy you some time till things calm down.
my vet will let me take in one lizard and if he/she has bugs then he gives me enough medicine for all the ones who live together, which does help cut down on costs.
as for jobs, are you good in any subjects? could you tutor people for a little money? do you know anyone with babies who you could baby sit? if they can't walk then you would not really have to run after them. i this helped somewhat.

First let me say, I'm sorry things are rough right now for you and your family. I'm sure everything will look up soon, sure hope so!

As far as what you can do, you are the only one who knows your talents, maybe you are creative and could make a craft and sell on ebay, thats something for you to think about

Parazap, would be a good choice until you can have them checked by a Vet. It costs about 23.00 for a small container, but you only use a small amount for about 7 - 10 days.

If thats a problem getting the money together for it, maybe I can share a little of mine with you.

As far as your hamster with wet tail, make sure his cage is super clean, spotless, right now. Clean everything in there well. Food dishes, water bottles , everything.

Make sure he is warm, no drafts. IMPORTANT keep him well hydrated, pediylite, or gatoraid in his water will be helpful.

Also Vitimin B is a great help while they are sick with this.
Nutritional Yeast, or brewers yeast, is a great source of Vitimin B and inexpensive. Ask your Mom she will know.

I sure hope he will be okay soon.

I just got twenty dollars from my neighbor for feeding his fish... I'm on my way!

Maybe I will tutor. I'm extremely good in science...

I will definitely go check out this parazap. All of you have mentioned it, so it must be one heck of a good medicine.

I'm sorry that I'm being so breif but I have quite a bit of homework! Oh, and Eve, as for Kiora, my hamster- her cage is ALWAYS very clean. She's well hydrated and has special meds in her water.

Thanks so much everyone. I'll give you updates!!

i tutor high school kids and i know alot of them always need help in science. if you are 16, then according to SC and CA schools, you should be in chem. if you can tell people how to calculate moles, i am sure they would be very happy.
good luck and definitely keep us updated

I wish I could make money. I live in the country, with three neighbors, one of which likes to shoot toward our property into a pond, (Oklahoma registered IQ of 2.3) Dig deep holes in his property and fill them with concrete, and makes mean dogs. Not the kind of dude you offer to mow grass for. But heres another vote for Parazap. It is working on my Green Anole, along with reduced stress boosting her immune system. I am currently treating Chico as well.
