so we're sitting here waiting for my precious little mali to drop her eggs, pampering her and loving her every minute, when out of NOWHERE my ridge tailed monitor lays what looks to be a fertile egg. WHAT THE HECK?! oh well, now that we are done freaking out, at least we know an incubator is on the way...

She was jealous.

yeah, no kidding! the ackie has now laid 7 eggs and looks to be about done. 3 of the eggs are duds but the other 4 are looking pretty good so far.

So what are you gonna do? You can't incubate both types of eggs in the same kinds of conditions, can you?

npohworks Jun 28, 2003 10:24 PM

certainly not. the ackies require between 85-87 and the malis will require over 90. right now, the mali still hasn't shown any signs of laying (she is still eating like a pig). and our incubator still hasn't arrived. we have seemed to develop a sufficient ghetto-bator out of some gladware and a 40 watt housebulb. the temperature isn't entirely consistent, but as long as we check on it a couple of times a day it seems to be ok. as far as once the incubator comes... who knows? by then all the ackie eggs might be dead anyway i'm so pessimistic and worried, i wish i'd known she was gravid!!!

it is awesome that your malis are breeding. The second the eggs are laid take some pics and definitely post some of the hatchlings. Good luck

yeah it's crazy, i didn't even know that they had bred. just one day the girl was lookin bloated and i felt a lump. take her to the vet and wow she's gravid. so far still eating so... but i will definitely take pictures of the eggs once she finally drops them
