TOKAY HELP PLEASE REPLY!!!!!!!!!!!

wsurugby10 Sep 30, 2004 11:10 PM

I just bought a 65 gallon tank and I'm looking to buy some Tokay geckos. I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some tips on what I needed to do for heating and lighting. I've never had a tank this big and I'm not sure how to heat it. I also have a waterfall that I would like to put in my tank but I'm not sure how to run the electrical cord from the waterfall out of the tank. Any advice? I hope whoever reads will respond. I need some help from people that know what they're doing. Thanks for your time

think we talked before about heating and the same will apply for your new larger tank. I use a red bulb 24/7 sitting on top the tank at one end. If your tank is a tall one(hopefully) you should be able to use a 60 watt bulb and if its not very high probaly a 40 watt. I use some kind of decor in that corner up high(hanging plastic plants) which allows the tokays to hide out close to the heat. I have never worried about the temp at the bottom of the tank because the Tokays hang out on the glass up high and sit where the temp is comfortable to them. the red reptile light will aloow you to veiw their activity at night and not bother them.
I'm not sur what type of lid you are using but basically you will need to modify it so you can run the waterfall pump cord up one of the back corners and out. you may need to cut out a small corner or male a hole large enough to run the cord out. Be carefull when you do the and don't make the hole/opening any larger than you need so you can prevent the Tokays from squeezing out. you can use a little tape or something to seal up the opening, really depends on your top and how you do it. Heres a pic shown many times just to give you a idea of what I use, there are many different ways you can set up and work well but you can see the basic light set up that has worked well. BTW, i used to use a waterfall but dont any more, Tokays constantly pottied in it and it made a very good hideout for uneaten crickets who actually breeded under and behind it, if you have one though give it a try they do look nice.
good luck

Well my tokay is a baby and i have him in a 15 gallon, he seems pretty happy. As for heat my tokay hides in a cave rock i have in the tank all day long. He only comes out at night. So far he appears very healthy. Now he is very bold, he even lets me pet him and only goes to bite me when i move my hand at his head. Yes i also use a waterfall. I also mist the tank twice daily once at night and once when i get up. Well i hope some of this helps you. later
