Remember "Wobbly"?.. now know as Sonshine.. getting "comfortable"..

clemmysman Oct 01, 2004 01:47 AM

As some know.. this big girl has been thru some changes. From being a 12" adult snatched out of the wild.. taken on a long (boat?) ride.. spending the last 5 years (reportedly) eating mostly apples, squash and bananas.. no protein.. and developing a "wobble".. as a result!

She is now walking 100% better.. (per the advice of Gaby, Ed, Paul, Ernie and Carl.. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone) with virtually no "wobbly".. and has acclimated well since joining her new family in late June!

Maybe this pic is evidence of something good?

You gotta love 'em!

what form of protein did you use ?
I had tried hydrating dry cat food and my red foot tortoises would have nothing to do with it.

She looks great, Terry!
It is good to see, that sometimes even mistakes in husbandry, that have been going on for a while, can be corrected (though easier in an adult than in a hatchling of course)!
Good luck with her!
I can't wait to see babies! Do the current eggs look o.k.?

Gaby

P.S.: Here is somebody, who most probably has Columbian blood in her too: my 4-year old Kathrin!

Thanks Gaby,

Sonshine, I have reason to believe, is of Surinam/Guyana heritage.

The eggs in question were created by this Columbian.. and her 2 sisters.. raised from hatchlings! Now 6 years old.. shown munchin' seldom gotten banana

These eggs shown I have candled.. showing "no signs of life".. the 1st 5 from 7/30. The last 6 (far right still moist from nest) from smallest F.. 2 are small.. 2 indented.. 2 O.K. from 9/22 have not been candled.
Obviously this has been a disappointment.

My Q is why infertile? Youth of females, 1st time clutches or males shooting blanks.. or combo??

You gotta love 'em!

Terry

Yes Terry, this is the girl I was thinking of, when I sent you the pic of Kathrin!
I just love these multicolor scales, that have yellow-orange or yellow-mango in them!
My little Clementine has a very similare coloring pattern of her scales, but the colors are not that intense!

Aren't we lucky having these little guys?
