Pacman feeding question

lisa_cristin Oct 01, 2004 02:21 AM

I posted about a week ago about my pacman who wasn't really looking his best. He was keeping his eyes closed about 75% of the time, day and night. He was also looking very thin. Well, he is doing much better now. I finally gave in and gave him a pinky mouse last week. I can handel feeing bugs but the thought of feeding anything eles gives me the willies. It was so horrible, I almost cried for the mouse (I know you all think I'm nuts). I have also started hand feeding him dusted crickets. I was having a hard time holding the crickets with tweezers so I've been freezing them for a few minutes before I feed them. My question is could feeding the frozen crickets have any effect on my frog? Could they lower his body temperature too much or slow his metabolism down? Thanks for any info.

Also, if anyone could post their pacmans feeding schedual (what, how much, how often) it would be greatly appreciated.

Lisa

how long are u putting them in freezer for ?
if there dead and actually frozen then i would let them thaw a bit, if ur just putting them in for a couple of minute and there still alive but REALLY slowed down they will be fine

i do this with my beardies and horned frog cos otherwise the crickets just hide in the decor and like u say its really hard to get them with tongs/forceps, i just put them in for a couple of minute so there slowed down a lot , they havent died/or frozen yet and feed them straight to the lizards/frog

Freezing food I dont know anything about, since I feed live crickets mainly. Feeding schedule (Spelling?) for my frog was to feed him around 6-9 crickets depending on their size every three to four days. I don't know how big your frog is so it is hard to tell how much to feed, mine is about 4 inches.
I don't follow that feeding schedule for the moment since he stays mainly buried most of the time. Though when he emerges I'll feed him.

Hope this helped

I feed my pac-man frog feeder fish and I lay them right in front of him. He usually eats them pretty quickly. For crickets I just drop them in and they will eventually walk past and then he will eat them. As for feeding by hand be careful. I used to do that for my albino and after he bit me pretty good twice I have stuck to tongs or just dropping the crickets in.
