Putting Down a lizard

Lep Jun 27, 2003 12:11 PM

Im sorry to say that my last collared is sick, and no one can do anything about it. Im so sad just watching her die. She has a viarl infection, and antibiotics will just give her a painful death. I need to put her out of her misery. This seems like a morbid question, but does anyone know a quick way to euthenize a lizard, painlessly?

Not to be smart but if you know she has a viral infection that is so bad she will suffer, are you telling us you had her to the VET ? And if so why would he not have put her down. Or are you just making your own diagnosis ? Again not trying to be smart, just curious how you know what she has, and its life threatning but vet did not take care of it ? Help me to understand! Thanks Eve

Everybody on here tries very hard to help when we can, we tease one another at times, but it is out of friendship! I was very honest with you , only because I am a sucker for critters, and I TRY everything before it comes to ending their life, I just wanted to make sure you did not just FEEL that he could not be helped, with out finding out, and If he must be put down, I would rather have the vet do it with a lizard then stick him in the freezer, I realize this does not bother some, they feel it is humane, but I personally could not and would not want to do it. Anyway I did not mean to imply you did not love your pet, just was disturbed wondering if there was another answer !
I also think you jumped the gun with calling us names, we may be goofy at times, but we do our best to help, and in no way did I call you names , just sincerely asked, because I cared ! Hope all goes well, Eve

Hey, of course i took her to the vet. What, do you think i perfom my own life-judging diagnosis? I didn't want any doctor to put her down. If it needs be, I wanted to do it. I've had her for 5 years. No one is going to do that but me.

Take her to the vet that diagnosed her w/this infection and let him/her do it. Most charge a small amount ($5.00-$10.00) due to the size of the animal and some will do it for free, but will want to keep the lizard's body to study how the infection affected the body. My vet did this when I brought in an injured wild anole.

1. Antibiotics are not indicated for viral infections;
2. Antibiotics do not cause a painful death;
3. "Sick and no one can do anything about it" is not a diagnosis;
4. Most of us prefer the services of a vet to the back of a shovel.

Try yore old cylinder bore 12 guage riot gun?
