Anyone have a lot of success breeding males in their first year? What weight was he when he started to breed and how many females did he sire for you?

Many people have done it. I've heard of 6 month old males breeding and producing viable eggs. I've heard of a number of people claiming that their 500 gram males will breed. Whether or not it's common, I don't know. I don't suppose the people who tried and were unsuccessful would post it, though it would be interesting to find out what the actual percentages of success are.

Both my pastel male and my het pied male bred last year at around 600 grams. Pastel male to 2000g female gave me 7 good eggs and 3 slugs. All hatched and are doing great. 1.3 pastels and 3 normals. Het pied male to 1900g female gave me 6 good eggs and no slugs. All hatched and are doing great. 3.3 50% het pieds. Work alright for me!

people I know.......
500 grams.......
650 grams.......
850 grams.......
and yes....one guy says...390 grams.......one female ...and it worked....he is mad he didn't use more girls......
......almost 600 gram---- guy,pastel,-----7 girls..and all hatched...lots of pastels..........
I'll let you know how well I do this winter........he's really doing well.........LOL.....*(pastel)......

That is awesome!!! I am in the same boat this coming Winter. My partner has a young pastel we plan to breed if/when he gets to size this year. How old were the males when you bred them? Just curious.
