Feeding habit, advice needed...

jch Oct 01, 2004 01:08 PM

The breeder I bought my gecko from started feeding them by dropping the mealworms from the top of the cage, right in front of the gecko. He won't eat out of a dish. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get him to feed differently than just dropping them in front of his face? Hes really healthy, nice thick tail. Right now he is only eating 1-2 a night if that. Any assistants would be great.

Well, I guess what you could do, Is just drop them from the top of the cage, Into the dish, But leave like 10 mealies in the dish, Then drop one in, Then mabey he will notice that there are more live mealies in the dish.

Is he eating crickets too? It is really important to not just feed them mealies as this is a really incomplete diet. If he is eating crickets too then he should be used to chasing things around and getting him to switch his eating habits shouldn't be too hard. If he isn't, throw some circkets in and see what happens, his hunting instincts should take over. As for feeding mealies i just recomend placing the dish in front of him and then dropping them into it. After awhile he will learn to look in the dish for them.

i agree with this method because it's exactly how i got my old leo to start eating out of a dish. it took a couple days, but she got it after a while
