dmlove Jun 27, 2003 12:32 PM

i have 11 red eared slider eggs. I have them incubating at 80-81 degrees F. They were laid about 4 days ago. The humidity is high, at leat 70-80 percent. Is all this right? how long till they hatch at that degrees? should i change anything? thanks!!!

If they are fertile that sounds like a good setup. Don't allow the eggs to turn over (take a marker and mark the top of each egg) and keep the humidity high and you should see little ones in about two months.

I recently hatched out 9 res eggs. They were laid on April 27th and hatched out on June 24th. I incubated them in small Tupperware containers with moist vermiculite. I placed these containers along with a tub of water in a ten gallon aquarium. This was kept in my garage, the temperature ranged from a low of 80 deg F. to a high of 95 deg F. You can view a few pictures of the hatchlings in the link below.

They are still absorbing their yolks and once this is done, I will put them into their setups.

How big were they when they were just hatched?

When they first hatched they were almost half turtle and half yolk hehe. I don't have a ruler handy since I just moved. They range in size the smallest being just bigger then a quarter, the largest is about 1.75 inches. Two are still absorbing their yolks they were late coming out of the eggs. The other 7 are now swimming in their setups.

Wow, 1.75" for a newborn turtle! It might grow up to be a giant. Thanks for the info.
