sperm plugs

tigerlilie2 Oct 01, 2004 06:32 PM

How do you tell if a male is producing them? Do they shed with them on the skin like condros do like in this link below?

You can pop them out easily, and yes they will shed them like other snakes, but popping them out is a better way to tell if they are producing sperm.

how do you pop them out?

Have you ever popped a baby snake to sex it? If so, it's the same thing. The only way I know how to explain it is, with your thumb towards the tip of the tail (maybe 2" past the vent) roll your thumb towars the vent with a fair amount of pressure & if the snake is a boy & producing sperm, the plugs will pop out fairly easily.

Sorry, that the only way I know how to put it into words LOL.

....sulcus (space) with the shed, often prior to the breeding season. Sometimes one can "milk" out a sample from the sulci, but don't misinterpret mucus for ejaculatory fluids.
