New Acquisition Today......

odatriad Oct 01, 2004 08:38 PM

Hi everyone,

Today I finally got to pick up my pair of subadult/adult togians. I find them beautiful and mesmorizing, although others will argue that they are ugly.. I love the banding on the throat/jaw/and neck; kind of reminds me of V. varius. The female is a bit skinny/dehydrated, but nothing that high humidity can't fix. I'd love to hear your comments, what do you think? Take care friends, ciao for now.. I'll take some pics of them in their new enclosure tomorrow, when i get to set them up... Cheers, have a great night...

thin, skinny, and needing water.

Don't worry set them up and your little juvies will go from thin long headed beasties, to nice muscle toned healthy beasties like my male.

That's a sharp lookin monitor, I'd like to see some full body pics.
Good luck with em!

very different, they lack that beefy look of other waters, almost like tree monitor types.

I thought it would have been hilarious to add an extra 'o' to your name and then feign innocence but I don't think that the monitors (website ones) care one way or the other. lol

nice monitors man. that will be a fun project.

cheers, andrew

Congrats and you better start building a bigger cage, hahahahahahahahaha. I know, I know, they are adult and do not get big. hahahahahahahahahahahaha, that may be true, but your going to actually feed them, then they "will" get big. hahahahahahahahahahahaha, Good luck and beautiful creatures, FR

There are water dragons, chameleons, frilled dragons, pythons, and monitors in my jungle room.

The columbus zoo calls theirs a khomani water monitor. It looks like a togian to me, but you be the judge. Here's a link to the page.

hey, thanks for the link..

We were arguing over at cybersalvator about whether that animal is a kohmeini or a togianus... It looks like the one at the zoo does not have the banding on the throat/neck/belly as togianus does... It just has the banding on the jaw, from what I can tell from the small pics... I am not a salvator expert by any means... just starting to learn... there's a couple of japanese sites that have pics of kohmeini's and they lack the beautiful banding that togains have... beats me......

Cheers, and thanks again for the link...

The pictures on the site don't do it justice. I live near Columbus, so the next time I'm there I'll take some better pictures and post them.

cool... I'd really like to see some pics of it... How big would you say it is.. From the pic, it looks like a big male...

She's about 5 to 5 1/2 feet (my guess) and a female according to the zoo. Now I have an excuse to go get some pics of her . I actually found her to be more impressive than the komodos the zoo has.

Hello,

I had argued on another site about her being a togian. She has the classic togian white chin and underbelly with black bands on her chin. It's hard to tell for sure on those two tiny pictures, but I also would lean towards male.

A komaini should be pure black from tip to tip, top to bottom. I have yet to see one that is not haha except princess.

I wonder if princess has ever laid eggs or an egg. She/he is a very pretty monitor. I would also like to see more pictures of her/him.

That's right they said "her" name is princess. I'll be going to the zoo here in a couple of weeks. I'll try to get as many pics as I can and post the really good ones.
