Herping outing

kingmike Jun 27, 2003 12:45 PM

Tuesday Terry Cox and Eddie S drove a very long drive on a very hot day to go on a herping outing with me, I had talked to them quite a few times before that point so felt pretty good about it. We found, 2 E. Fox snakes, 10 or more Butlers garter snakes, 2 bright ribbon's, 1 babie water snake (not exactly sure what kind) and a few others kinds of snakes, and a nice painted turtle. Terry took some pics and maybe will post some here. Man, talk about a great day I also wanted to say that Terry and Eddie were awesome, turned everything back they looked under and were honestly all around great people. I hope I get to herp a lot more with them. Thanks guys, it was a blast. Mike

We had a great time too, and sure appreciate the time and effort you put in, and also the confidence you have in us. It would have been a perfect day had I caught that 2-3 foot fox snake. As it was, it was pretty good. I've been looking for a Butler's garter snake spot in Ohio for a long time, and I thank you for showing me this one. I'll now be able to compare our relic population in n.e. Michigan to a more southerly population. Some other snakes we saw were some pretty brown snakes and many Eastern garters with at least three color phases. BTW, that greenish one was definitely an Eastern. The water snake looked like a cross bt. a northern and a Lake Erie water.

I don't have any pics now 'cus I have to get them developed. But I do have some other pics that might interest you, plus a story. I'll post that somewhere above. Later, bud...

Terry
