growing speeds, help!

mattlogsdon Jun 27, 2003 12:49 PM

my corn is growing at rates unimaginable! i got her about 5 months ago and she was about 8 inches long, now she's over 2 feet long! i dont have a problem with her growing i think its cool, but what causes her to shed 2 even 3 times a month? i thought snakes were supposed to shed only once a month, oh and how long will she get? ive heard upto 7 feet. she is the sweetest snake ever, she's never struck at me or hissed at me and the only time she's opened her mouth at me was to yawn. a pic is below...

I usually don't like amels, but your's is very brightly colored.

It's okay that she is shedding that often. It just means she's growing well.

You could double check to make sure there aren't any mites in the cage or on her, but I think you have a healthy corn.

All my 2002 corns are over 2 feet as well, though I got them a few months before you got yours. Nothing to worry about unless she starts looking fat (skin showing between the scales).

About how long she'll get? Well, it all depends on how much you feed her, her life span, and her genes. I'd say she'll probably get at least 4 feet long. I've heard of corns getting to be a few inches over 6 feet long, but not 7 feet.

Thats one beautiful snake!
I have heard of a corn getting almost 6ft long but I think its rare. During their first year, they shed more often (possibly depending: on how frequently they're fed, the number of mice per feeding, the quality of mice, and good old genetics...I am sure I might be forgetting some factor in there). Anyway, good luck with that one and post another pic if you can! carl3
