eye caps

7s Oct 01, 2004 11:42 PM

I've never really had a retained eye cap problem but my girl just shed (over the course of weeks) into a thousand pieces. Here eyes aren't blue, and she is feeding, but they are crinkly. They have creases across them. Are these retained eye caps? I don't want to mess with her eyes unless I have to.

I intend to seriously bump up humidity for her. She is new and this was her first shed with me.

Also, the skin on the very tip of her nose hasn't come off and she hates me to mess with her. I don't want to forceibly soak her face since that's where she breaths from. Will it be ok?

The dented in eye caps are from too low a humidity. Unless you bump up the humidity in the cage they will stay that way. With proper humidity levels they will be back to normal within a couple to a few hours. Don't try to pull off eye caps unless you know for sure they are there, and then only if you know what you are doing. Even if the eye caps are stuck, they will come off with the next shed with proper humidity. Try to keep the cage humidity level around 50%-70% & shedding problems wont happen.

...bumping up the humidity won't change their appearence much, they'll still be retained caps. It is dangerous to attempt removal of retained caps in BPs, so wait until the next shed and MAKE SURE the humidity is HIGH then. Watch for the snake to dull up as it goes into the next shed, and then insure good humidity by spraying with WARM water. Good luck!
