UpDate: Female Kayaudi Dwarf Retic, feeding question?

PristinePythons Oct 02, 2004 11:24 AM

Well I went in yesterday to change her water bowl and she decided she wanted to come out. Slowly she went right up my arm and up towards my shoulders. I'm like ok...if that's what you want. I laid the tape measure on the floor and she's a total of around 6 1/2-7ft in length give or take. Her head is for sure 3-4 inches long. I have a 6ft vision cage (Model #632 --- 72" wide --- 36" deep --- 18" high) comming for her!!! I know she's going to like that!!! She is a perminant resident here! Now all I need to do is pair her up! I do have a question on feeding. She needs to be fattened up! What should I be feeding her in order for her to gain signifiant weight? Is 1-2 large rats plenty? She doesn't appear to be able to take jumbo's although I'm willing to bet it's more then possable. Gotta love the dwarfs! Funny...I always said I didn't like them! Saw some in person, noticed how truly beautiful they are and got one! Gotta love the dwarfs!!!

John, please post some new photos of that animals pattern. From talking to you I am almost certain it is not a WC Kayuadi animal, but you should be able to tell simply by its behavior to your pressance. ALL WC DWARF RETICS ARE FLIGHTY! NONE like to be held much! Most will musk and deficate/urinate, if restrained. They are infact very shy, where as CB animals are not... I was almost sure the photo was of a CB Jampea island animal, and actualy I belive that I hatched it here. I have a photo record of all of our hatchlings so it should be fairly easy to tell you, if I was right or not. -Shaun D

I have to disagree with your blanket statement Shaun. I just picked up a WC super dwarf from Bob Clark at the Anaheim show. She's super mellow and actually seems to enjoy being held. I haven't had her musk or take a shot at me yet. Even if I let her roam the floor a little, she doesn't seem to freak out when you go to grab her again. She's quite the oddball, but I think it does happen from time to time.

On a side note, if you're still looking for good photos of dwarfs for info purposes let me know all what angles and specific shots you'd like. - David
