Well the 50% het albino simply means that there is a 50% chance that it is a 100% het albino, and a 50% chance that it is a normal. SO, if you were to breed the 50% hel albino to a normal... IF the 50% het turns out to be a 100% het, the offspring will be 50% het albinos. IF the 50% het turns out to be a normal, you will have all normals.
All offspring will look normal. There is a 25% chance of each baby being a het.
This would take a lot of breeding and generations to prove out, if you don't have a 100% het or a homo. albino, you will be hard pressed to prove out. You would get generations of normals and still not be even close to certain of your original 50% het.
For getting normals this is fine, but if you ever want to see an albino you need to get more poss. hets or hets or, of course, an albino.

I don't know if you already have this 50% het albino, but if you don't, you would be much better off getting a 100% het albino male.
You can pick up a 100% het Male albino for like $125-150 bucks. It would be well worth it to know that you have a 100% het if you plan on breeding it to normal females in order to make possible hets. If not, you could be totally wasting your time by breeding a 50% het that may very well be a normal (and you could end up with just a bunch of normals). Just my .02.

But let say you buy 4 at a real cheap price. You should have on average 2 100% hets for less than the price of 100% het. More albinos.

Rick,
I agree that possible hets are a good thing. However, if someone is planning on breeding 50% hets to NORMALS...they really could be wasting a lot of time... By the time you try and prove out the offspring, it could be YEARS down the line, and you could end up with just a lot of normals.
Now, if you plan on breeding an albino or even a 100% het albino to the 50% het albinos (so you can prove them out), then yes, I agree with your statement. Just my opinion.

I would take all the females and breed them to an albino male. Think this. The amount of females bred back to an albino male will produce all 100% hets and maybe 50% of the breeding will give you 50% albinos. In the mean time your first breeding will give you a chance to grow them up an a decrease in the price of your male albino. MHO Time may be your issue......

Exactly, I totally agree with that. If you have an albino male to breed to possible hets, then the possible hets are a great thing. Like you said, worst comes to worst (and a couple of the female 50% hets do not prove out)... they still give you 100% hets.
I will be receiving a male albino and 3 100% het female albinos in a few weeks from Morph King Reptiles. I then plan on breeding the male next year to some normals to make 100% hets. The next year, hopefully, I will then be able to breed the male to the 3 het females.
For a guy like me (who has a 50% het pied male and 5 females), I see it as a valuable learning experience. Even if my male turns out to be normal, I will have learned a lot about breeding, and should have plenty of females to dink around with. In the meantime I've got money piling up in the bank, while morph prices continue to fall (I've got a lot of patience). With a little luck, I might pop out my own pieds. Whatever the case, I'll be having a lot of fun doing it.
Mark
so if i get a 100% het for albino male what would i get then?
A 100% het to a normal...statistically 50% of the offspring would be hets....hence the name 50% possible het. just because you don't really know which ones are actual hets.

If you breed a 100% het male to a normal female, you will get 50% hets. Bottom line, half will be 100% het albinos and half will be normals.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish? How much money are you looking to spend? What time frame? If you give some more details, we may be able to help you more. If you are trying to get into an albino project for cheap... a 100% het male may be the way to go. You can then breed him to a normal female. Once you raise the offspring, you can then breed the females back to the original 100% het male father and try to prove them out.
Again, a lot depends on the type of money you are looking to spend, and how much time you are willing to wait.
