Keeping Dragons In Queensland

chanty79 Oct 02, 2004 08:29 PM

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd firstly say hello! I'm Andy - I live in Queensland, Australia. I've been lurking in and around these boards for quite a awhile and wanted to ask a few questions. Is there anyone who lives in Queensland on this board that can help me get started with keeping dragons. I've never kept reptiles before but have kepts aquariums for a long time. I'm not sure where to start really - where can I find out who breeds Dragons near me? Is there pet stores that ppl know of in SE QLD where I can go to see enclosures/animals etc? Thought someone might know of somewhere good they could recommend.. Thanks!

Andy

Andy,

You need to get a permit, contact your National Parks and Wildlife Service. They send you a permit application, you send that in with $40 (waived in some states) and about 4 weeks later you will have a permit. When you get that it has a list of the laws, the animals you can keep, their needs and lists of supplies needed, herp club information, educational courses, books and sites to check and registered dealers names in your area.

They also will asssit you in the care of your animals and if you have an unexplained death, contact the rangers and they will pick up the animal and provide a necropsy.

This is the way it is in most areas of Australia.

Good Luck and let us know how you do

Hi
you ever saw beardies in the wildlife?
i think study beardies in the wild is more fun then study him in a cage
saw one time on tv some thing about beardies.
saw a couple head bobbing to eachother and mating.
then the female layed some eggs she burrowed them in sand.
later the little critters came out the ground .
it whas very cool to see it.
my wish is studying beardies in the wildlife of australia.
