good investment or not?

I recently acquired 2.3 pastel ball pythons, with one female being 700 grams. I think it's a rather good investment because there is the super pastel which is the key to having better chances at producing bumblebees, killerbees, pewters, yellowbelly pastels, and then you can plug them into the recessive morphs........etc......

Make sure that you have multiple females so that you can use your male pastel to service your females. Hold back your females and sell the males.

Hopefully, you get an idea of whether they are good investment animals.

even if i buy babies now? doesnt the price drop faster with co-dominants?

Yes, co-dominants tend to drop quicker in price than recessive morphs.

But, you can reproduce them much faster if you have big normal females and buy a co-dominant male.

Also, how low can they fall? At some point pastels should level off at whatever the right price is for a captive bred ball python. The 10's of thousands of imported babies each year make that price artificially low for normal ball pythons but I would expect pastels to stay above a couple hundred dollars each and I think they are still a few years from that stabilization price.

i knew there was a catch... do you think axanthics will drop that fast? or better yet which morph do you think is the best investment right now?

Axanthics won't drop that fast because there aren't that many people making them. On the other hand, there aren't that many people making them because they just aren't that popular. The WOW factor just isn't there like it is with other morphs. People like bright and flashy which axanthics are not. If you're just shopping around for your first morph I would still consider the pastels, not so much for the pastels themselves but for the super pastels they can create of which there still aren't that many of around and which still command a high price. I got a chance to hold a super pastel for the first time last week and I was definatly impressed, I can't wait to make my own.

first......it's all about the $$$$$Money......huh?

...second.....you buy what YOU like and want to breed....

for money?....pastels can make you more than most other "cheaper" morphs"".......

........even if and when they fall to about $300...they'll still make you money..........

at $700 and up now even...think what you can make?..supers are how many thousand?.....8? 10 yet?.......how many for sale?.not a whole lot huh?......

and female pastels are from $1400 up to $2400 depending on how dumb the person buying it is......

still money.......

.......females.....they are worth enough to get alot and keep alot back to raise up yet.....

you would have to spend $20,000 on a morph right now to make the money your are dreaming of........

.......at $25 for baby balls you can still make money on them....so anything over that is profit?...right?......

In addition to what Michael has said, take into account pastels are more affordable than most morphs. Leaving you with a broader audience to market the animals.
