Hi Vonnie,

Yes, all of these animals (and more) share a corner with the collareds; although the collareds and the chameleons take up most of the space. The savannah is pretty nice, and has never bitten me before; but he's still young so he's a little nervous sometimes. It's interesting to watch a group of collareds that live directly above him, because they pay so much attention to him when he eats. They don't seem bothered at all, but I will probably block their view soon (just in case).

And the iguana? What a monster, eh?!! It's really too bad they are so misunderstood. And the worst thing is that irresponsible people keep selling them and "victims" continue to buy them... Most, like this one, end up "dumped" at petstores or zoos.

But anyway, thanks for the note!

wow all you people have so many lizards. i cannot wait till i have more time for more of them. i really wish helga's feet would heal so i could get her a boyfriend uro. and now that i have a bicinctores male, i need a female. oh the possibilities.
i always thought the sm's were cute but they eat other animals and i just cannot handle that. i am suprised the collareds are taking it so well. who knows, they may be jealous (of the sm, not the animals being eaten). i watched a video on will well's website the other day of a collared eating another lizard. it took me several hours to get over it.
so what kind of lizard is that iguana sitting on

I think they'd be extremely offended if they knew they weren't being recognized as animals!

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Subphylum: Hexapoda
Class: Insecta
Subclass: Pterygota
Infraclass: Neoptera
Order: Orthoptera
Suborder: Ensifera
Family: Gryllidae
Genus: Hapithus
Species: agitator
Common Name: restless bush cricket

(wink) just another excuse for me to practice taxonomy.

Sorry about the lizard eating lizard video. I would only feed my collareds another lizard if they weren't eating anything else and that was the last resort. Luckily I haven't had to do that in years. I know it's natural, especially for C. vestigiums but I like all lizards.

i was not offended or anything. i just thought it was going to be a picture or something but as in all things, once i started watching it, i could not stop. it was just weird to think my babies would actually do that. and yes i do know it is natural. i guess i felt bad because i liked the other lizard too. it was educational and i love your website. i hope i did not offend you

I guess I could get used to this new species.

It APPEARS to be friendly, it is quite nice looking, but I never saw an IGGY own one before, Are there any care sheets available, LOL

Eve,

I've had extensive experience keeping these beasts, and I can tell you they are quite a pain to keep! Even though many can adapt to a life in captivity, most don't do well at all. Besides, you wouldn't want to keep them, they eat other animals, like cows, chickens and pigs; although some are strictly vegetarian. It's seems to have something to do with their geographic distribution, but some populations of these strange creatures eat things like cats and rats and even snakes! I guess you could get a captive bred individual, as they seem to be little more tame, and their aggression is relatively low toward conspecifics. The only problem is that they are extremely descructive in their environment, and have done much irreparable damage to most ecosystems. Other than that, Homo sapiens (Some believe there is actually another subspecies, Homo sapiens sapiens, but that is still being studied) is quite a rewarding species with which to work... and quite prolific!

Hehe......

And to Will: I really enjoyed the video, I think it's important to show that... was it taken in the wild?
