I haven't been keeping up with reptile news of late, I have been going through previous posts and.. is it just me or did a water monitor surpass the komodo dragon for the record of longest lizard?? If so.. wow thats awesome.

Hello Andy,

Yes it did surpass the komodo monitor in length (ca. 1896), but not overall bulk = the komodo is still the heavist overall; the crocodile monitor is probably 'also' longer than either the komodo or water but is very lithe and light weight, more adapted to its arboreal life-style...but all are basically ambush predators, with the water monitor more of a scavenger when very large.... taking from fishermen, homes, and alike whenever possible = the most adaptable of varans

cheers,
mbayless
