Cleaning out the cage

Spotted_Leopard Jun 27, 2003 01:47 PM

Sorry for all the posts. OK, I got another twenty gallon from my dad's friend. I think a turtle used to be in it. We decided to use the newer one for fish. Is there a solution that I could use to clean the cage so that none of the scent of the other animal is still in there? It seems a shame not to put such a nice aquarium to use, it has a screen lid and EVERYTHING....

P.S. Would equal parts of vinegar and water put together in a spray bottle be enough to disenfect the cage? It's the same solution I used to clean out my puppy's crate when he used to go potty in there, LoL.

Thanks...Jaz

When I clean out tanks that have had other animals living in them first, I use a VERY strong bleach/hot water solution. I just pour some bleach and hot water into the tank and thoroughly wash down the walls too. Then I rinse it out really well with water from the hose.

If you decide to use a bleach solution to clean it make sure you get all the bleach smell out of the tank. You can use the vingear solution after to get the bleach smell out. I would agree with Cleo to use the bleach solution just to make sure the tank is VERY clean before putting your leo in. You can also use Novalsan if it's available since Novalsan doesn't leave any smell.
