I think we have hook worm problem

mfharris Oct 03, 2004 09:55 AM

We have a 2 year old res. For the past 6 mo we have seen some small red worms in the tank when cleaning (done once a week). Today while cleaning I saw a piece of feces squirming around. After watching for a bit, a little red worm emerged. I think it is hook worms, but I'm not sure. Our turtle is not symptomatic. Can anyone confirm this for me, and how do I treat it?

Thanks

I am not sure if there is any commercial way to get rid of "hook-worms" or not, if that is in fact what you have! If these worms were white i'd say they are from the filter media in your tank, but since they are crawling out of the crap from your turtle, and they are red suggests that they arent from the media. i would say first try to research online to find out anything about the problem, but if that doesnt help you, I would either call or visit a local vet to find out what they are and how to get rid of them! hope this helps...
