nasty warts on veiled chameleon

pep40 Oct 03, 2004 11:56 AM

Hi All, I hope someone can help. My mature, male veiled chameleon has developed several large, squishy warts on his sides. He's seen a vet twice but the vet knows nothing about the warts. They don't seem to pain him but they do interfere with his climbing because he'll often grab a wart instead of a branch and then he'll fall. In fact, he doesn't seem to be able to climb as well as he used to whether he grabs a wart or not. These things are huge, 1/2 to 3/4 inches in diameter. My questions: does anyone know what these things are and what caused them? Is there a cure? Is it natural for a 3 year old chameleon to lose his climbing ability?

Thanks for any help.

Did your vet draw blood to do lab work? Its difficult to tell without examining him and a blood panel but this could be a serious condition called blister disease. If it is blister disease those are warts, they infectious packets that need to be treated. I would try to find a different vet that can help you. If you don't know of one you might be able to find one at this web site.

These don't sound like "warts". Warts are caused by a virus, but these could be abscesses or other nasties. May need to take a biopsy sample from one to find out what it is. They sound huge! I've never seen what you describe.
