New mudsnake morph???

BlueKing Oct 03, 2004 05:02 PM

I found an eastern mudsnake crossing the road (next to a swamp)today that's about 3.5 - 4 foot long. I have seen tons of these guys over the last 25 years, but I've NEVER seen one that has NO red or pink on it. All the areas that are suppose to be red are bright white - and I mean a really bright white! There is no red on this snake whatsoever. It is a very beautiful clean loooking snake. Has anyone else ever seen one of these before?
(I remember there was a black and white coral snake once in Texas and a lady was bitten by it because a guy on the phone misidentified it because it had no red bands! This story made the local news.)
And yes, it IS a mudsnake - positive ID was made (small flat head beady little eyes, and extremely smooth, shiny, very glossy appearance - not to mention he tries to poke me with his tail repeatedly)
I will try to post some pics of him tomorrow or the next day . . .

Thanks ,
Zee

Hi--anerythristic eastern mud snakes, Farancia a. abacura, are well documented. I found 2 last year, and they're mentioned in many publications. I have not seen anerythristic western muds, but that only means _I_ haven't seen them. Nice find.

Thanks for the information! Getting smarter every day! By the way, I also found a yellow corn snake (no red or orange) last week - also a first for me!

I will get the pics as soon as possible. Yes I HAD a digital camera - a fairly new one. My EX - girlfriend retaliated on me by destroying it when I broke up with her recently.
I will hold on to those snakes until I get a pic which will be in a day or two hopefully.

Sorry for the delay . . .

Not to break up with a girl with expensive equipment nearby! Just kidding, but seriously I want to see this all yellow corn. I dont think Ive seen one of those in the trade, you may get some good $$$ from a breeder for that morph.
