Vipers are not Pit Vipers

phobos Oct 03, 2004 06:25 PM

How about posting messages about Pygmys, copperheads and other PIT VIPERS on the Crotalidae forum.. Where they might get a better response ...

True Vipers only here.

That was a little off color...did you have a bad day? many would associate that forum with crotalus so a lot of pit vipers would consider to be grounds for this forum...pigmy rattler I agree...copperhead...we start slipping...bushmaster...it can go either way...more arborial pits...I think it ok to post here. Just my opinion. And who knows, maybe its posted in more than one forum. Some are slow so people might think they can get a quicker response. Most venomous keepers should be diverse and educated right? This forum is kinda slow though so I kinda killed that thought.

Hi:

No; I actually had a very nice day. I thought about my post for quite a while, thinking like you it was "off color" but went ahead with it anyway. I just like things nice & tidy and was annoyed at seeing things out of place. Yes, the forums are slow, thought it would liven things up with something other than that age old disagreement about "Venomoids"

"Pigmy rattlesnakes are vipers (family Viperidae). All vipers are venomous with hinged fangs . The Viperidae is divided into two subfamilies, the Viperinae and Crotalinae (the pitvipers). Pitvipers evolved from a viperine ancestor. In addition to the traits characteristic of the Viperinae they also have facial pits that detect heat energy (infrared light). Vipers are apparently a recent addition to the fauna of the new world. About 20-30 million years ago it appears a pitviper crossed over between Siberia and Alaska and thereby colonized this hemisphere . In the years since the new world was colonized, the pitvipers have undergone an adaptive radiation (evolved into many species with diverse niches)." from http://www.stetson.edu/departments/biology/piginfo.shtml#sys

Viperidae is a family name and contains all these species but if you somehow can manage to change this forums name to true vipers or "viperidae without pit vipers" then I will be happy to ask kingsnake to delete my massage. How ever "Pygmy Rattlers" are from this family. And you can not oppres ,my little VIPER

Yasin:

Yes, you are correct. Nice desertation, take a PhD out of "petty cash" for your effort. I will be more careful now that I know your out-there lurking waiting to strike. Is there an A/V available for your bite? Or do I just suffer to my last breath? LOL

I will rephrase my posting:

Subfamily Viperinae Only!! Or ...NO Pits Allowed!

Be safe,

Al

I usually hide and wait between different forums, and I strike when I see a post like yours. I strike so fast that its even hard to see. However I am always accurate and when I bite that person suffers (as we can see ).
There is only one A/V and its politeness but I guess you lack that one in your medicine cabinet so I guess you are done for

Take care;
Yasin

Pygmy's are under the genus Sistrus not Crotalidae. This wasn;t changed until recently so maybe you werent't awars, but in my opinion this is as good a place as any for that post.
