Need help with my BOA

karate1wjka Oct 03, 2004 07:17 PM

I think I have a problem with one of my Boas I've had her for 2 1/2 yrs and shes 6ft. her eating habits from day one have been really great, since the last two months her eating habits have droped alot. Where before she would eat 2x's a week down to 1x everytwo weeks. but before she would kill her prey now she wont kill it i have to kill it and leave it in the tank and put a towel on top to cover.and she wont eat it for at least two hrs. sometimes she wont even touch it. I have other snakes that dont have this problem. shes nice and fat she has not lost any weight do you think shes going into a breeding faze.

Breeding could indeed be one of the problems, but the females will normally keep feeding and live prey should bring on a feeding response even if F/T does not. I would think it is something more along the line of eviromental or medical, maybe a slight UR infection that you have not noticed yet, or bound up, constipated. How are the temps in the cage, getting cooler outside now, is the cage still warm? How about the substrate? Cedar and pine have toxins in them and it may have taken a long to for your snake to feel those effects, I would bring her to the vet to have them take a look.
Good Luck
