San Diego Gopher Albino Strains.

MichHerper Oct 03, 2004 08:37 PM

I'm new to breeding san diego gopher snakes as was wondering if someone could answer this question for me. I have a 1.2 group of annectans consisting of an albino male and albino female, and another normal het albino female. The albino male I believe is an applegate albino and when breeding it with my het female I produced the typical normal hets and albinos. But after I picked up the albino female, I caught her copulating with the male and she layed a clutch. She hadn't eaten for me since I got her and before copulation. The clutch hatched and all were normal. I figured she must have been with a previous male that was normal and was gravid when I purchased her. She started eating again right away and months later dropped another clutch. Thinking this clutch was going to be all albinos since both parents were, suprisingly enough they are all normal also. Is there more than one strain of albino with annectans and these babies are all double hets? Or is it possible the retained sperm through two clutches? Thanks for any help.

Jeff

Hi Jeff
There a good chance you have 2 different strains of Albinos . Did you get all these snakes from the same person and if so where the offspring related .

There is several bloodlines of Albino Annectans
1 Applegate
2 Bechtel
3 Purple Blotched ( which I heard is related to Applegates )
4 T Mcgrudy
5 T Dyers
6 T Michel Klumpers

You forget the lavender albino (T ?). These are absolutely unrelated to applegates. A friend collected the original animal himself.
