Tank Divider for 55 Gallon?

LloydHeilbrunn Oct 04, 2004 12:16 AM

OK,I acquired two 55 gallon tanks today and thought I'd divide each into 2 smaller snake cages. Anybody know a source for a good precut divider sturdy enough the snakes won't get through??

I guess I could take measurements and get glass cut for me, and silicon it in, but I'm the least handy guy around.....

I personally prefer using plexiglass. There's less of a chance of sharp, potentially, dangerous edges. You can get it at most any hardware store, and it's easy to work with.
Good luck!

I disagree about the plexiglass. You'll still have sharp edges once you cut it and it makes a mess. (The only way I've successfuly cut it was with a circ or table saw). It will also scratch and haze over time. If you take one tank into a glass shop and ask them to make 2 pieces that will fit, the rest is easy. (I say bring in the tank so they understand the exact measurement and how it needs to fit). They'll also knock off the sharp edge but you'll still have a flat edge to mount to the tank.

Get 100% silicone, about $3.50 a tube, you'll only need one. Use a caulking gun to caulk a bead on each side of the glass all the way around where it meets the tank. Use your finger to lightly press and smooth the bead of caulk. Wipe excess on something you'll throw away cuz this stuff is sticky. Let dry and your done!

No disrespect towards previous poster, I just don't like cutting plexi!

I find it ironic that ppl post questions to things that have already been answered, if you take a 10 gallon and put it on end and slide it in the middle it will work perfectly according to another post.

Well,I searched "tank divider" and came up empty,it did not dawn on me to search "Put a 10 gallon tank in the midle".

Besides, if I wanted to buy more 10 gallon tanks, why acquire the 2 55s??

there would be nothing to post about. I'm sure if you REALLY research these forums you'll find that every question asked now has been asked before. If this bothers you, don't respond. Leave that to the fools who enjoy helping others, then you can concentrate on the questions that have NEVER been asked.

Thanks to those who responded.

I have been thinking about the 10 gallon tank idea, and need to check if it really fits.

Is so,I could razor blade the silicon apart, and have three pieces of glass which should do the trick without getting any cut!
