Breeding Laws in South Carolina

CJBianco Oct 04, 2004 09:52 AM

Does anyone here know where I can find info on this subject? If my little guys and gals end up having babies, I'd like to be able to sell some without commiting a crime.

I'd like to know what officially makes someone a "breeder" and if I need some specialized license. Or if there are legal limits to how many Ball Pythons one can house. You know...all the usual stuff.

Any names of government agencies or keywords for Google would be appreciated.

Thanks In Advance,
Chris

as far as I know there are no laws limiting how many animals one can house in SC. I was breeding larger animals for years and selling my babies in the carolina trader just as personal sales. this was a few years ago and not sure if the laws have changed. contact your local county or city courthouse and then check the state courthouse to see if the laws have changed. sorry i couldn't be of more help. This is the only thing I've been able to find regarding animal breeding laws, and it lists nothing for South Carolina. Maybe the reason I've been unable to find any is that they may not exist. Regardless, I'm sure I'll need some form of license in order to sell them. I'm still searching on that one. I'll contact those agencies you mentioned.

Thanks,
Chris

State Breeding Laws

Im in Fl and we do have to be licensed in the state to breed/sell. I went thru the fish and wildlife to get my license which is 50 a year, and allows me to sell at various shows. It also helps when I want to sell to petstores and various other wholesale sales. It at least shows I have some knowledge of the trade and plan to be around for awhile. Contact your local government first. Ask for all their ordinances on animals. Then if you are going to sell babies make sure you can operate a home business out of your home. If your state has a sales tax you must collect sales taxes for animals sold in state. You may have a local sales tax or mercantile tax too.
Contact your state elected body they will be happy to collect revenue from you....they are here to help you........

Or just be underground.......just do not get caught........
knock knock.......fines and penalties are real fun. Sometimes your best friend will rat on you.....Have fun doing your paper work.
